വഞ്ചനയുടെ ആമുഖം തുടരുന്നു...............

ആമുഖം തുടരുന്നു...............

The fight between KANA and KCS continued and the Archdiocese of Chicago ordered that the non-endogamous Kananites must be given membership in the Parish council of Knanaya missions. Bishop Kunnacherry wrote to the Cardinal in Chicago that “I would rather close down the mission and call my priests back than to compromise on the fundamental principles of the community – Endogamy in 1996.Fr. Simon Edathiparambil who was in charge of Knanaya missions at that time decided not to create a parish council or appointed trustees to avoid nominating non-endogamous Knanaites in such entities, which is being continued todate. In 1993, 2nd Knanaya mission was established for the community in NY and Fr. Sauryammakil was appointed as the Spiritual director.Subsequently missions were established in Houston, Dallas, San Jose Philadelphia and LA to a total of 10 missions.

Behind the creation of most these missions, there was a lot of effort from KCCNA and local associations.A lot of time and money was invested by community members for this cause. The expectation was that these missions will be for the Knanaites and they will help us to foster our traditions and customs and assist us in passing that Knanaya heritage to the 2nd generation.

The idea of creating a Syro-Malabar diocese was greeted with lot of concern for the community early on. KCCNA and local associations met with apostolic delegate Mar Karottabrel at several locations and asked for clarifications on the status of Knanaites in the proposed new diocese. At every instance the answer was “Knanaites will be treated like they are treated in the Diocese of Kottaym”.Bishop Kunnacharry demanded a Vicar General (VG) with administrative independence over Knanaites as a minimum condition for supporting the diocese. We as a community believed in those promises.Knanaya community members spent a lot of effort, time and money for the consecration/inauguration of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar diocese of Chicago hoping that they will be respected as in Kottayam.A lot of community members were disappointed that Mar Jacob Angadiyath did not even acknowledge Knanaya Community in his speech during the inauguration of the diocese.

  1. Again the blogger do not have the facts straight. Bishop Kunnassery signed a document accepting the NORMS set forth by Rome and Chicago Archdioces, that those who have non-knanaya spouses enjoy equal rights in the mission. Please ask Chicago Archdioces for a copy of that document. Also, Kunnassery had no jurisdiction outside Kerala and how the heck can he "DEMAND" for a VG in Chicago? Fr. Mutholam happened to be the parish priest in Chicago, and being at the right place at the right time, he got selected by the Chicago St. Thomas Syro-Malabar dioces for the VG position. If it was someone else in Chicago at that time, Mutholam would not have been the VG.
