  1. Bishop Moolakatt expressed that Samudhayam and Sabha can be treated as two sides of a coin. But parish and local associations can not be called two sides of a coin. According to him, local associations are part of a parish. Membership criteria of a parish as defined by Moolakat is those who are born of Knanaya Parents. For the local associations the definition of a Knanaya Person is 1. A person should be born of both Knanaya Parents and 2. If married the spouse of that person has to be born to Knanaya Parents. So if a Kna marries from outside, that person is a member of the parish and not the local associations. If local associations is part of a parish, how can a parishner be denied the membership of the local associations. By changing the definition of a Knanaya person, Bishop Moolakat is creating more problems/confusions etc, than solving it.
It is time people express their outrage to his statement. Just watching and be a bystander does not solve any problems. You have to act.

  2. Some how, the Catholic Leadership thinks that Knanaya is a "Catholic" thing and their Bishops can change it as needed. They do not know that it is a community which span outside the Catholic Church and there by they do not have any right to change any thing. The Knanaya Jacobite Community has a constitution of its own approved by the Supreme Court and constitution stipulates the purity of the blood and the endogamy. Same is the case with the constitution of their North American Wing called NAKD. I hope Moolakkattu Pithavu understand that the community had its roots back to first century and Catholics are just a part of the community. No matter what he or Mutholathu do, there will be a Knanaya endogomous community in the world, not necessarily under him if he fails to uphold the heritage

  3. Dear Blogger,
Happy to know that you decided to act again , we will not allow anyone to destroy centuries old Knanaya traditions. The people who calls our traditions as just practice is lining in fool’s paradise.
What I understood from Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt's recent statement and speech is the following things.

    1. Knanaya Catholics mean a baptized Catholics of Knanaya Catholics parents, they will remain as Knanaya Catholics up to their death.
    2. Those who marries from out side Kottayam diocese can retain their membership in their respective parishes if they wish.
    3. The spouse and children of an exogamous kna ( kna who married from out side ) will not be considered as member of the Knanaya parish .

This will create many problems . Those people who were forced to join the other parishes due to marriage can challenge that time decision. I don’t think thousands of people who joined other parishes for marriage and soul’s of people resting peace in non knanaya cemeteries will tolerate this stand. We will go back to a situation before 1911 ie common parish for Knanaya and non Knanaya people. Because even though the spouse and children of an exogamous kna (knanaya person marries from outside Kottayam diocese) will not get membership in the parish , the parish has to fulfill their liturgical needs.
At present Knanaya organization are not giving membership to exogamous kna, in future this will create confusion, how we will deny membership to a Knanaya parish member , he may be the trustee or auditor of the church.
We will never allow anyone to dilute our traditions , this fight is not against any person but to protect our culture.

  4. About 12 years ago when I went to India for vacation I had a chance to talk to an Achen who is very close to Bishop and Aramana about Knanayisam and Syro Malabar in America. While we were talking he told me that there is big problems going on in each parishes as there is no youngsters in the church. Everybody is going aboard after they finished their studies. So there is a talk going on to accept the men who are married from Non Kna to our parishes. So this Moolakattu formula is not New. This already planned long back. If there is no Parishners their chair will not be there. They don't care about watered down parishes. They care about their chair.

    1. The other side of this same coin is the lack of new recruits for priesthood. The new generations of Knanyite kids in Kerla, other parts of India and all over the globe are enjoying the fruits of global development. The prospect of becoming a priest is not appealing to them. So with lesser priests it will become even harder to maintain the exclusive Knanaya churches. So these Bishops are planning for that contingency 20 years ahead of time. What we are facing now is nothing to do with NOW/PRESENT times. This is the painful transition the church had planned a long time ago inorder to ensure their smooth continuation and hense power for another 100 years.

  5. Here is my two cents. I do not think we can do much if Mar Moolakatt decides to offer membership to exogamous KNAs in our parishes to survive within the Sero Malabar system. If we do not like his stand, just stay way from our churches and he cannot do anything about it. However, we are not bound to accept his take on local associations. The hierarchy and the laity of a church may be the same side of a coin, but not the church and local associations.

The simple solution to this dilemma is to remove the 'Catholic' part from the name of our associations and then define a membership criterion that is established by KCCNA. Let us call KCCNA as the Knanaya Cultural Association of North America. To be a Catholic entity, we may have to go along with the hierarchy and be the same side of the coin.

I request everyone to avoid the use of vulgar language. Also please avoid stating that we are superior to non-knas. There are so many smarter people than us in many ways. A true God-fearing person should respect everyone equally. So, please do not publish writings using such vulgar language. Sorry, I cannot appreciate your struggle unless you insure that the language used is decent and professional.

Since you accept anonymous writers I also want to be anonymous. I would remove that from you list of choices because one should take responsibility for his/her writing.

  6. We do not want Moolakatt to attend the Convention. He is trying to destroy the KCCna. We can make the convention success without his presence.
KCCNA need not to cooperate with Angadiath.

According to Mar Moolakat's speech in Chicago, he says Knanites started marrying from out side since 1950s. This is an utter foolish statement. Those who wants to leave the mother community had been doing this since AD 345. Those who left the mother community did so purposely or unpurposely, that was their choice. Modern Knanaya Bishops and Priests do not know Knanaya histories because they are ordained through CMI, JESUITS, SALETIENS,CARMELITES, CAPUCHINS and several other Congregations. They learn Knanaya histories only after they ordain as priests. If Mar Moolakkat knew the Knanaya histories well he wouldn't have come up with the stupid MOOLAKKAT FORMULA. This formula breakes up a united family. This formula will be a family disaster. Knanites never heard of such formulas until 2004.
The very basic problem started in Knanaya Catholic community was, when Our Archbishop Kunnassery proclaimed back in 2002 at the ORLANDO Convention that " I AM NOT YOUR BISHOP", ANGADIYATH IS YOUR BISHOP". At this point please remember Bishop Mar Thomas Tharayil. Once Mar.Thomas Tharayil said "I AM THE POPE OF ALL KNANITES IN THE UNIVERSE". Salute Mar Tharayil and pray for his grace. We don't need Bishops and priests who deny their own people. This community needs Bishops like Mar Makil, Choolaparambil and Tharayil.
In order to have a peaceful solution in Knanaya Catholic Community in the USA disburse all the MIXED SYRO_KNA MISSIONS and bring back the statusco of Knanaya Missions prior to the formation of Chicago Syro Malabar Diocese.

  8. What make us to leave Roman Catholic Church ? Just start from our first father Prophet Abraham to till today and look deeply there is any reason to dilute this great community. What is the base of creating all the 23 Rites in Roman Catholic Church. If this new Catholic scientists theory is right then why we need this many rights. We need only one right under Universal Catholic Church. We have every right to be a Catholics and we have every right to stay as one community and separate Rite with preserving the Heritage and Culture.
Just send one message to God our Lord for asking why he didn't Dismiss the chosen community right after our Lord's birth ?

  9. Please do a campaign to remove Muthu from his post and appoint the current v.g. at Kottayam - Rev.Fr. Edaplani. He is from a pious family and will fight to keep our traditions intact - Janmathaalum, Karmathaalum. It was his turn to be the bishop, but mar Moolakat stole it away from him.
