2013 ജനുവരി 20 ഞായറാഴ്ച ഷിക്കാഗോ സെന്റ്‌ മേരീസ്‌ ക്നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കാ പള്ളിയില്‍ വികാരി
റവ. ഫാ. എബ്രഹാം മുത്തോലത്തിന്റെ അധ്യക്ഷതയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന പാരിഷ് കൌണ്‍സില്‍ സമര്‍പ്പിക്കുന്ന
അപേക്ഷ:
ക്നാനായ കാത്തലിക്ക് മിഷനുകളുടെയും ഇടവകകളുടെയും
സ്ഥാപനത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് 2012 ഡിസംബര്‍ 20നു ക്നാനായ വൈദികര്‍ക്കും നോര്‍ത്ത്‌ അമേരിക്കയിലെ ക്നാനായ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റിക്കുമായി
അങ്ങ് എഴുതിയ സര്‍ക്കുലര്‍ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റിയിലാകെ വളരെ ഗുരുതരമായ എതിര്‍പ്പ്
ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ക്നാനായ പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കും സമുദായത്തിന്റെ നിലനില്‍പ്പിനും
ഈ സര്‍ക്കുലര്‍ എങ്ങനെ ദോഷകരമായി ബാധിക്കുമെന്ന് കാണിക്കുന്ന തരത്തിലുള്ള സന്ദേശങ്ങള്‍ക്കൊണ്ട്
ഇ-മെയിലുകള്‍, ബ്ലോഗുകള്‍, യ-ട്യുബ്, വെബ്സൈറ്റുകള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ ഇലക്ട്രോണിക് മീഡിയ
നിറഞ്ഞു നില്‍ക്കുകയാണ്. ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു വിനാശത്തിന് കാരണം, ക്നാനായ പള്ളികളിലെയും
മിഷനുകളിലെയും അംഗത്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു മേല്‍പറഞ്ഞ സര്‍ക്കുലറില്‍ വ്യക്തത
ഇല്ലാത്തതാണ്.
ഓറിയന്റല്‍ കോണ്ഗ്രിഗേഷനില്‍ നിന്ന് 1986-ല്‍ ലഭിച്ച റെസ്ക്രിപ്റ്റും
അതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ 2011 നവംബര്‍ 11-നു അങ്ങേയ്ക്ക് ലഭിച്ച നിര്‍ദേശവും (Port No. 85/2011) ക്നാനായ സമുദായം അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഈ റെസ്ക്രിപ്റ്റും
നിര്‍ദേശവും മാറ്റിക്കിട്ടാന്‍ അങ്ങയുടെ മാര്‍ഗനിര്‍ദ്ദേശവും പിന്തുണയും ഞങ്ങള്‍
ഒന്നായി അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
ക്നാനായ മിഷനുകള്‍ ക്നാനായക്കാര്‍ക്ക്
മാത്രമല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ചിക്കാഗോ സെന്റ്‌ തോമസ്‌ രൂപതയില്‍ ക്നാനായ സമുദായത്തിനുവേണ്ടി
പ്രത്യേക മിഷനുകളും ദൈവാലയങ്ങളും സ്ഥാപിച്ചതില്‍ ഒരു അര്‍ത്ഥവും ഇല്ല. ക്നാനായ
മാതാപിതാകളില്‍ നിന്നും ജനിച്ചവര്‍ മാത്രമാണ് ക്നാനയക്കാര്‍ എന്നതാണ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ
പാരമ്പര്യം. ക്നാനായ മിഷനുകളും ഇടവകകളും ക്നാനയക്കാര്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമുള്ളതാണ്. ഒരു
ക്നാനായക്കാരന്‍ ക്നാനായക്കാരല്ലാത്തയാളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചാല്‍ അയാളുടെ കുടുംബത്തെ
ക്നാനായകുടുംബമായി പരിഗണിക്കില്ല. ഇത്തരം കുടുംബങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതയിലെ
പള്ളികളില്‍ അംഗത്വം ഇല്ല. എന്നാല്‍ കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതയിലെ കീഴ്വഴക്കം അനുസരിച്ച്
ക്നാനയക്കാരല്ലാത്തവരുടെയും കൌദാശികമായ ആവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ അവര്‍ക്ക് ആവശ്യമുള്ള സമയങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം
നിര്‍വഹിക്കാന്‍ സന്നദ്ധരുമാണ്. ഇതിനപ്പുറത്തേക്ക് എന്തെങ്കിലും ചെയ്യുവാന്‍
ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നിര്‍വ്വാഹമില്ല.
ക്നാനായ ദൈവാലയങ്ങളും ക്നാനായ മിഷനുകളും ക്നാനായ
മാതാപിതാക്കളില്‍ നിന്നും ജനിച്ച ക്നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കര്‍ക്ക് മാതമുള്ളതാണെന്നു
കൂടുതല്‍ വ്യക്തതയോടെ ഈ സര്‍ക്കുലര്‍ മാറ്റി എഴുതി ഞങ്ങളുടെ പ്രശ്നം ശാശ്വതമായി
പരിഹരിക്കുവാന്‍ ഞങ്ങള്‍ അങ്ങയോട് വിനീതമായി അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

circular from His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath No. 6/2012 dated December 20,
2012 regarding Knanaya Mission/Parish membership is inconsistent with the
centuries old traditions of the Knanayites which has got the concurrence of
Vatican and the practices followed in Kottayam Archdiocese. We are deeply hurt by this circular which is
in contrast in its entirety to the unanimously passed resolution during our
last Mission general body on October 28th 2012 on this issue.
“Membership in North American Knanaya Missions/Parishes must be exclusively for Knanaya Catholics born to both Knanaya parents and if married, their spouses must also be born to both Knanaya parents.”
We
cannot and we will not accept any alterations or adulteration in its
definition.
We, with
due respect, request His Excellency through you or any responsible body to
modify the circular and take appropriate actions so that Knanaya Catholics
could continue their centuries old traditions practices and faith in North
America as it has been done under the Arch Diocese of Kottayam. Otherwise, we shall be constrained to
withdraw our support and adherence to Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago and any
Missions/Parishes comes thereunder. We
pray the almighty that there shall not be such an occasion.

His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath,
Bishop St. Thomas Catholic Diocese of Chicago.
The Annual general body (Palli Pothuyogam) of St. Mary’s
Knanaya Catholic Church of San Jose, CA, held on January 27, 2013 decided to
oppose and reject your pastoral circular No. 6/2012 dated December 20, 2012 for
the following reasons:
1.
It will destroy the ethnic identity of St. Mary’s
Knanaya Catholic Church, thus making it no different than any other Syro
Malabar church in the country.
2.
Traditions, practices, and a Knanaya identity that
have been passed on for centuries will be lost for ever.
3.
It is against all the promises given by the Church
authorities in the past.
We are deeply hurt by your circular, and cannot accept
your plan to change our church into a non-endogamous community. Your actions/inactions that attempt to
destroy our ethnic identity will not be accepted by our Knanaya Community.
We request your Excellency to withdraw or modify the
circular and take appropriate actions, so that Knanaya Catholics UNDER YOUR
PASTORAL CARE can continue their centuries old traditions and practices in
North America, as they have been done in the Arch Diocese of Kottayam.
